Will Baker Hughes (BHI) Beat Earnings Estimates This Quarter?

We expect Baker Hughes Inc. (BHI), one of the largest oilfield service companies in the world, to beat expectations when the company reports its second-quarter 2013 results before the opening bell on Jul 19, 2013. ?

Why a Likely Positive Surprise?

Our proven model shows that Baker Hughes is likely to beat earnings because it has the right combination of two key factors.??

Positive Zacks ESP: Expected Surprise Prediction or ESP (Read: Zacks Earnings ESP: A Better Method), which represents the difference between the Most Accurate estimate of 66 cents and the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 64 cents, stands at +3.13%. This is a meaningful and leading indicator of a likely positive earnings surprise for shares.?

Zacks Rank #3 (Hold): The stocks with a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong buy), #2 (Buy) and #3 (Hold) have a significantly higher chance of beating earnings. The Sell-rated stocks (#4 and #5) should never be considered while going into an earnings announcement.

The combination of Baker Hughes? Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) and +3.13% ESP makes us very confident of a positive earnings beat on Jul 19, 2013. ?

What is Driving the Better-Than-Expected Earnings?

Baker Hughes' strong portfolio of products and services should help it post better-than-average results in North America and enable it to further expand in the international markets.

Moreover, Baker Hughes has a competitive set of technologies, which allows it to bolster its activity in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GoM). The company has successfully introduced products such as the AutoTrak Rotary Steerable System and advanced completion systems in the region that have a meaningful impact on its earnings and cash flows.

Finally, both oil and natural gas-directed drilling increased from the tough levels of mid 2009 with majority of the recent drilling being oil-directed. The increase in oil drilling was supported by high commodity prices and the development of several new oil shale plays. Incremental gas drilling was driven by higher activity in the gas shale plays. Being one of the largest oilfield service companies, Baker Hughes is capitalizing on these favorable trends.

Other Stocks to Consider

Here are some other energy firms that are worth considering as these have the right combination to post an earnings beat this quarter:

W&T Offshore Inc. (WTI) has an Earnings ESP of +9.09% and a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).

PetroQuest Energy Inc. (PQ) has an Earnings ESP of +28.57% and a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).

Core Laboratories NV(CLB) has an Earnings ESP of +0.76% and a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

Instant Scrapbook: Fourth of July Family Fun - Surf and Sunshine

samsung galaxy s4 story album tech gadgets Instant Scrapbook: Fourth of July Family Fun

Our family has been looking forward to a long four day weekend since Labor Day 2012. By the time Fourth of July rolled around, we had grand plans of long, lazy days at the beach; fireworks every evening; backyard barbecues and a trip to the family cottage. As soon as daddy got out of work on Thursday we loaded up the car with 2 adults, 1 toddler, 2 dogs, ?numerous bags, beach balls, barbecue supplies and my brand spanking new Samsung Galaxy S4.

I had been drooling over it?s camera abilities since before it came out so I was looking forward to capturing some great photos. Let the four day weekend begin! But first, a 2.5 hour car ride to my in-laws. Thankfully we arrived and somehow missed all of the traffic jams. Surprising, I know.

We arrived just in time for a delicious barbecue with family and friends. But the highlight of the evening was definitely going to be watching the SS Badger car ferry leave at sunset, followed by fireworks just a short time later.

This was the first time Maddilyn was able to really appreciate and enjoy the fireworks. Once the show started, Maddilyn would clap and exclaim ?You said the big ones were coming dad, you said they were!? After a late night of fireworks and sparklers, we finally made it to bed. The next day started off blissfully lazy. We slept in until 11am ? unheard of with a toddler, right? This easy breezy morning was followed by a delicious brunch and a long day at the beach.

I lost count of just how many times one or more of my body parts were buried. While mom had the good sense to stay out of the water since it was by no means ?swimming ready,? Maddilyn seemed to be oblivious. She would vehemetly deny being cold, even as her teeth chattered. Eventually, she could no longer deny it and we compromised with ice cream after she warmed up.

samsung s4 story album 5 tech gadgets Instant Scrapbook: Fourth of July Family Fun samsung s4 story album 7 tech gadgets Instant Scrapbook: Fourth of July Family Fun The rest of the weekend passed by in happy family bonding. It was one of those weekends that make you appreciate the little things like family time, sunshine, and ice cream cones. In short, they were perfect summer days. It?s unforunate that the business of life prevents these days from happening as often as we like.

samsung s4 story album tech gadgets Instant Scrapbook: Fourth of July Family Fun

As we drove home on Sunday, I got a notification on my Samsung Galaxy S4. I had been using it to snap pictures all weekend and it?s Story Album feature (which I didn?t even know about!) had grouped all of the pictures from the weekend into a photo album for me. Curious, I opened the folder and was surprised to see this wasn?t your typical ?photo gallery? as you can see above. It created an actual scrapbook from one of the 5 themes available. It was so intuitive it had already sorted my pictures date and location. Perfecting it was just a matter of deleting the photos I didn?t like and adding descriptions.

For someone like me, who never manages to get her photos from her phone to hard copy, I love this feature! It?s nice to have this magical weekend cataloged to pull up later when I?m pining for another four day break from reality.

This post is part of a series dedicated to our favorite features of the Samsung Galaxy S4. A huge thank you goes to Samsung Mobile and Verizon Wireless.?

Thailand Hitler Banner Photo Draws Huge Backlash as University Students Portray Nazi Leader Alongside Superheroes

July 15, 2013|4:09 pm

The university in Bangkok has issued an apology, saying that ignorant students were to blame for the paintings on the banner.

King Victor Emanuel III, (R) Adolf Hitler (C) and Benito Mussolini (L) watch fascist troops march past from a balcony in central Rome in this 1941 television file footage.

We "would like to formally express our sincere apology for our students' 'Superhero' mural," said Chulalongkorn University art school dean Suppakorn Disatapundhu, in a statement. "I can assure you were are taking this matter very seriously."

The mural shows Hitler in a pose, making a Nazi salute. Alongside him are some of the most popular superheroes known around the globe including Superman, Captain America, the Hulk, and Batman among others. The words "Congratulations" were also written across the banner.

Officials at the university have tried to explain that the students were trying to contrast Hitler with the superheroes, and show that good and bad co-exist in the world.

Suppakorn Disatapundhu has said, "(The students) told me the concept was to paint a picture of superheroes who protect the world."

The dean pointed out that the Nazi leader was drawn in greyscale, where as the superheroes were drawn in color, backing up the explanation that they were simply contrasting the two and not trying to portray Hitler as a superhero of any kind.

"Hitler was supposed to serve as a conceptual paradox to the superheroes," he said.

However, photos of the students messing around were also posted online and quickly attracted further criticism and attention. The photos show the students imitating Hitler's Nazi salute.

Jewish human rights group the Simon Wiesenthal Center slammed the university: "Hitler as a superhero? Is he an appropriate role model for Thailand's younger generation -- a genocidal hate monger who mass murdered Jews and Gypsies and who considered people of color as racially inferior?"

Wiesenthal Center associate dean Rabbi Abraham Cooper, said in a statement: "The Simon Wiesenthal Center is outraged and disgusted by this public display at Thailand's leading school of higher education."

The mural was displayed at the university for two days before it was removed on Saturday.

No Justice for Trayvon Martin: Twitter Reactions to George Zimmerman Not Guilty Verdict

VIBE Posted July 14, 2013
On Saturday, July 13, George Zimmerman was found not guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of Trayvon Martin, even though he blatantly said he shot the unarmed teen, albeit in self-defense.

America expressed their shock on Twitter. Celebrities from Rihanna to A-Trak to Mac Miller to Ice Cube to Jennifer Hudson shared their feelings on the social media site as hashtags like #NoJustice and #RipTrayvonMartin began trending.

Rev. Al Sharpton called Zimmerman's acquittal "a slap in the face to the American people," while others sent their prayers to Martin's family. Check out reactions to Zimmerman being a free man in the gallery that follows.

LSU's Hill pleads guilty to misdemeanor battery

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) ? Suspended LSU running back Jeremy Hill has pleaded guilty to simple battery in connection with a bar fight in April.

Hill entered the plea Friday in state district court in Baton Rouge. He will not have to go to jail for the fight, but his future remains in question. He faces the possible revocation of the probation he was granted following a January 2012 guilty plea to a misdemeanor stemming from his sexual relationship with a then-14-year-old girl at his high school.

District Attorney Hillar Moore says it will be up to a judge to decide whether Hill should serve the suspended six-month sentence in that earlier case.

A hearing would likely be set for August. Coach Les Miles, who suspended Hill after the bar fight, was not immediately available for comment.

The 20-year-old Hill rushed for 755 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2012, his freshman season. Hill got increased playing time after season-opening starter Alfred Blue went out with a season-ending knee injury in LSU's third game.
