Somewhere along the line, components suppliers claiming to have been contracted by Nokia and Microsoft have been squawking about plans for an upcoming Windows 8 tablet.
According to Digitimes' sources, Nokia is planning to release a Windows on ARM tablet running on a Qualcomm dual-core platform. It could be out as early as Q4, this year. The device is expected to ship with a 10 inch screen, but further than that details are sparce. Nokia, the said, is tipped to have contracted Compal Electronics to produce a batch of more than 200,000 units.
This year's Mobile World Congress considered, Nokia will probably baffle us by also releasing a tablet with a very good camera which runs on Symbian.?
Meanwhile, Digitimes?sources recently said that Google is planning to bring a flagship tablet to the market as early as May this year. It was looking for Taiwanese brand partners late 2011 and, in the end, allegedly picked Asustek for its ODM capabilities.
This seven inch model will go toe-to-toe against Amazon's Kindle Fire which has performed well in the cheap and cheerful end of the market.
