Instant Scrapbook: Fourth of July Family Fun - Surf and Sunshine

Our family has been looking forward to a long four day weekend since Labor Day 2012. By the time Fourth of July rolled around, we had grand plans of long, lazy days at the beach; fireworks every evening; backyard barbecues and a trip to the family cottage. As soon as daddy got out of work on Thursday we loaded up the car with 2 adults, 1 toddler, 2 dogs, ?numerous bags, beach balls, barbecue supplies and my brand spanking new Samsung Galaxy S4.

I had been drooling over it?s camera abilities since before it came out so I was looking forward to capturing some great photos. Let the four day weekend begin! But first, a 2.5 hour car ride to my in-laws. Thankfully we arrived and somehow missed all of the traffic jams. Surprising, I know.

We arrived just in time for a delicious barbecue with family and friends. But the highlight of the evening was definitely going to be watching the SS Badger car ferry leave at sunset, followed by fireworks just a short time later.

This was the first time Maddilyn was able to really appreciate and enjoy the fireworks. Once the show started, Maddilyn would clap and exclaim ?You said the big ones were coming dad, you said they were!? After a late night of fireworks and sparklers, we finally made it to bed. The next day started off blissfully lazy. We slept in until 11am ? unheard of with a toddler, right? This easy breezy morning was followed by a delicious brunch and a long day at the beach.

I lost count of just how many times one or more of my body parts were buried. While mom had the good sense to stay out of the water since it was by no means ?swimming ready,? Maddilyn seemed to be oblivious. She would vehemetly deny being cold, even as her teeth chattered. Eventually, she could no longer deny it and we compromised with ice cream after she warmed up.

The rest of the weekend passed by in happy family bonding. It was one of those weekends that make you appreciate the little things like family time, sunshine, and ice cream cones. In short, they were perfect summer days. It?s unforunate that the business of life prevents these days from happening as often as we like.

As we drove home on Sunday, I got a notification on my Samsung Galaxy S4. I had been using it to snap pictures all weekend and it?s Story Album feature (which I didn?t even know about!) had grouped all of the pictures from the weekend into a photo album for me. Curious, I opened the folder and was surprised to see this wasn?t your typical ?photo gallery? as you can see above. It created an actual scrapbook from one of the 5 themes available. It was so intuitive it had already sorted my pictures date and location. Perfecting it was just a matter of deleting the photos I didn?t like and adding descriptions.

For someone like me, who never manages to get her photos from her phone to hard copy, I love this feature! It?s nice to have this magical weekend cataloged to pull up later when I?m pining for another four day break from reality.
